Thandabantu Park in Dunoon, Cape Town—once overrun by illegal dumping, sand mining, and neglect—is getting a second chance thanks to a R650,000 investment by Ciolli Brothers, a local construction materials company.
What was once a wasteland filled with rubbish and rats is now being reshaped into a safe, green community space. The project, funded as part of Ciolli Brothers’ social responsibility commitment, includes playground upgrades, trees, fencing, bins, and regular cleaning—giving Dunoon residents access to the public space they’ve long deserved.
The initiative is supported by local youth volunteers and environmental groups like Green Afrika, who’ve helped clear the site and restore dignity to the park.
“We are turning something rotten into something beautiful,” said Dunoon community leader Madoda Mqhayi.
Thandabantu Park’s transformation is a model of public-private partnership, showing how corporate investment and grassroots action can work together to reclaim neglected spaces—and restore pride in underserved communities.
