Harvard University has launched a free online course designed to equip aspiring change-makers with the tools to drive lasting social impact through social entrepreneurship and systems change.

By Brian Trelstad – Harvard Business School

Hosted on the edX platform, the new HarvardX course—titled Social Entrepreneurship and Systems Change—offers a practical framework for individuals seeking to address complex global challenges such as inequality, climate change, and health disparities through innovative, scalable solutions.

Co-developed by the Social Innovation and Change Initiative at Harvard Kennedy School, the course features interactive content, real-world case studies, and insights from global social entrepreneurs. It is tailored for anyone interested in turning ideas into action—especially those operating in resource-constrained or underrepresented environments.

“Social change doesn’t happen in silos—it happens when individuals, institutions, and communities align for impact,” say the course designers.

The course focuses on systems thinking, inclusive leadership, and how to design, test, and adapt impactful interventions. Learners can complete the programme at their own pace and gain a verified certificate from HarvardX for a fee, or audit the course for free.

With Africa’s growing ecosystem of social innovators and youth-led initiatives, the course offers timely and relevant learning for the continent’s next generation of purpose-driven entrepreneurs.

📚 Enrolment is open now via edX.org.
