A powerful new partnership is putting the future of tech in reach for learners at Phalaborwa High School — with brand-new robotics and coding facilities now open and ready to inspire.

Thanks to a joint initiative between AECI Mining, Palabora Mining Company, and the Palabora Foundation, the school’s newly launched lab is equipped with cutting-edge tools, laptops, and training resources to boost STEM learning and spark curiosity about the careers of tomorrow.

“Coding and robotics are no longer optional — they’re the language of the future workforce,” says Dr Keneilwe Sebego, head of the Palabora Foundation. “By providing these facilities, we’re investing in local learners’ confidence and the skills they need to succeed.”

Learners will be able to work hands-on with robotics kits, programming software, and coding challenges — helping bridge the digital divide and build much-needed STEM capacity in the region.

This project is part of a wider push to create meaningful opportunities for youth in Limpopo, where access to advanced learning tools has historically been limited. For many students, it’s the first time they’ve had a chance to experiment with real-world tech that aligns with global trends.

By turning possibility into practice, this partnership shows how business and community can work together to unlock local potential — and ensure that rural schools don’t get left behind in the digital age.
