Super Sun Super Together raises R115 000 to power skills and sustainability at Thandanani Drop-Inn Centre

Cheque handover at Thandanani Drop-Inn Centre

Super Sun and Big Save have handed over a cheque of R115 000 to the Thandanani Drop-Inn Centre; celebrating the close-out of the 2025 Super Sun Super Together purpose-led campaign. The money – raised with the community for the community – will be invested in a toilet paper manufacturing machine, building community skills and generating income for the NPO to make it more sustainable.

The Super Sun Super Together campaign has drawn to a close, raising an incredible R115 000 for the Thandanani Drop-Inn Centre in Mamelodi, Pretoria.

Launched during Women’s Month in August 2025 in partnership with retailer Big Save, the purpose-led initiative saw a portion of every Super Sun product purchased across Big Save’s five stores channelled directly towards Thandanani and its beneficiaries. “The campaign celebrates the collective power of community upliftment, honouring the everyday heroes who make it possible,” explains Sibongile Mooko, Premier Marketing Executive: Milling. “We are delighted with what the campaign has achieved and humbled by the dedication of the collective team who consistently worked to create awareness, engage consumers and educate about the deeply impactful contribution Thandanani is making each and every day.”

With the campaign reaching its conclusion at the end of March this year, the impact has taken tangible shape. “The full R115 000 raised will be used to purchase a toilet paper manufacturing machine for our organisation,” says Thabo Kgotsi, co-founder of the Thandanani Drop-Inn Centre. “This will enable us to do two critical things: equip community members with hands-on, marketable skills and generate a new sustainable income stream for our NPO. This makes it a direct investment in our community’s future.”

Mooko adds that the power of the campaign lies in its mechanic: turning everyday purchases into powerful acts of generosity. “Every bag of Super Sun maize meal bought at one of Big Save’s five stores during the campaign enabled customers to support the vital work done by Thandanani directly. A percentage of the product purchase was allocated to the NPO at the till. In this way, the campaign delivered on its promise of ‘super together’.”

Rooted in purpose rather than once-off charity, the initiative was always intended to build lasting capacity. “This makes it different to a CSI campaign and is exactly why it was the perfect values-aligned partnership for us,” notes Dylan Jardim, Big Save: Head of Marketing.

“We wanted the impact of this campaign to be felt directly at community level. Choosing the Thandanani Drop Inn Centre as the beneficiary NPO made this possible as their work is impact driven and led. Each day this dynamic young team restores dignity and creates pathways to empowerment, especially for women and young people. As Big Save, their vision perfectly mirrors our brand values, and we have been honoured to walk this journey with them.”

Based in Mamelodi, Thandanani has become a vital lifeline for the most vulnerable in the area, particularly women and children, providing psychosocial support, feeding programmes, education and crisis intervention services, while championing skills development and assisting child-headed households. The toilet paper machine speaks directly to that final mission: turning a donation into a working asset that can train hands and fund operations at the same time.

“This partnership is deeply humbling for us,” adds Kgotsi. “It’s a powerful validation of the work we do. More than that, it’s a commitment to the lives and futures of the people we serve, particularly our women and youth. Through this support, we will be able to invest further in our centre and support our community.”

With the money already deposited in Thandanani’s account and the machine on its way, the day’s event was one of deep celebration and gratitude to everyone who had contributed in some way.

“At Premier, we’ve always believed in growing alongside our communities with our communities. This campaign is about more than giving – it’s about walking alongside Thandanani to build brighter lives and futures,” says Mooko. “By adding purpose to an everyday choice in a shopping aisle, we’ve been able to multiply the impact of that choice across this community – translating it into a tangible machine, a skill and a future. We thank both our partners Big Save and Thandanani for joining us in being ‘super together’ and bringing Super Sun’s brand promise to life. Because when we support women, we nourish families; and when we nourish families, we grow nations. Today is just the beginning.”
