Breaking through: BTE network lights up SA film scene

Founded by visionary filmmaker Sammy Rabolele, BTE has transformed from a modest audiovisual services provider in the North West into a bold, black-owned production house making waves on the national stage. With a dream to bring authentic African stories to life, BTE’s journey is one of grit, purpose and opportunity.

Their rise was fuelled by the Kgolo Enterprise and Supplier Development Programme, an initiative of the Royal Bafokeng Nation, implemented by Edge Growth. Through strategic mentorship and a R1.2 million equipment loan, BTE gained the tools—and the confidence—to aim higher.

The impact:

  • 50% year-on-year revenue growth
  • Expansion from 4 to 6 permanent staff
  • Nearly 100 temporary jobs created
  • A debut film, He’s Not Ready, screened in Ster-Kinekor, Nu Metro, and on JCDecaux digital billboards—an unprecedented achievement for a first-time filmmaker

“We’re not just creating content—we’re preserving culture and building legacy,” says Rabolele. “When we hold that Oscar one day, we’ll remember where it all started.”

BTE Network is proving that with support and storytelling power, the future of African film is bright—and inclusive.
