Bridging the Digital Divide Through Action
South Africa’s “digital divide” remains a critical challenge—particularly in rural and low-income communities. Through key partnerships with the Department of Basic Education and the Department of Communications & Digital Technologies, the MTN Foundation launched the ‘Connecting Every Child’ initiative, delivering 30,000 devices and multimedia access to students across the country.
Empowerment Through Skills & Innovation
Beyond access, the Foundation has rolled out digital upskilling programs including the Digital Skills for Digital Jobs (DS4DJ) initiative—training hundreds of youth and women in industry-ready skills like network administration, cloud services, and AI.
Across nine provinces, over 900 participants—with more than 60% women—are receiving entrepreneurship support, accredited digital training, and mentorship to fuel sustained socio-economic engagement.
Supporting STEM Pathways & Secondary Education
The MTN Foundation has built 400+ multimedia and ICT learning centres in rural and township schools, providing environments for STEM learning and teacher training programmes that help students engage in digital education where infrastructure is lacking.
Scholarships & Strategic Partnerships for Tomorrow’s Leaders
To further bridge educational gaps, the Foundation supports scholarships for high-achieving students—including programs focused on girls, blind learners, and STEM scholars—to unlock opportunities in higher education and the digital economy.
Alignment with National Vision & Impact Strategy
The Foundation’s work supports South Africa’s National Development Plan (Vision 2030) and aligns with broader goals such as inclusive economic growth, industry skills training, and reducing inequality through targeted digital interventions.
With over 90 educational projects already supported and 4.5 million beneficiaries across health and education interventions, MTN Foundation continues to turn technology access into transformative social impact.
