Vodacom has planned a month of activities across the country to celebrate the spirit of Nelson Mandela Day. Activities include the support of children’s initiatives, feeding schemes, centres for the elderly, gender based violence and literacy.
7 July: Greening of an ECD centre – Grasar Day Care Centre in Olievenhoutbosch: Staff to donate two packs of seedlings for the veg garden & assist in planting
11 July: Build EcoBricks with NPO Khensani’s Collection on Campus – An EcoBrick is a building block for classrooms that’s made out of unrecyclable plastic: cost-effective building material that also alleviates plastic pollution.
13 July: Reading at ECD centre – Staff to donate books & read them to learners at ECDs in Atteridgeville.
15 July: Helping NPO Rise Against Hunger – Partnering with for Rise Against Hunger by joining their session at Sandton Convention Centre in Joburg to help pack food parcels that will go to local ECDs.
21 July: Toy making drive – Staff to help organisation Clothes to Good in making toys from recycled goods for children at ECDs
Spirit Day on 27 July: 5km Wellness Walk – Staff to join in a 5km walk & on the day, donate a pack of sanitary pads for female learners cared for by NPO African Children’s Feeding Scheme through their Teenage Girls Club and Safe Hubs.
26 July Care pack drive & centre greening for NPO Grip (Greater Rape Intervention Programme) – Staff invited to help pack 200 care packs of toiletries being donated & to donate time for vegetable & tree planting
18 July Entrepreneur upskilling for learners in Botshabelo – Staff to assist in teaching learners how to sew to make own clothes & pass on marketing skills to help them sell these clothes: learners at Setshabelo Child & Youth Centre & Reamohetse Articon School
18 July Greening of ECD in Kimberly – Staff to donate time for vegetable planting at Diamond City creche & can also donate colouring books & reading books for learners.
18 July Greening of old age home in Kroonstad – Staff to donate time for vegetable planting at Boiketlong Old Age Home & can also donate board games/playing cards & cakes for high tea with residents

20 July Education & literacy drive for ECD centres in Bay area – In partnership with NGO Maro Foundation, staff asked to donate stationery packs for learners & books for schools’ libraries
18 July Food & nutrition drive for orphanages in Kei area – In partnership with NGO Exhibition for a Child, staff asked to donate time to prepare meal packs for orphanages
18 July Blanket & food drive at shelters in Eden area – Staff to donate & deliver blankets for local children’s shelter & assist at local soup kitchen to help feed the homeless
ECD upliftment drive in Kraaifontein area – Staff requested to pack stationery packs & donate books & help prep meals for learners at Little Miracles Educare, Little Smurfs Educare, Lukhanyo Educare Centre, Ntlazane Educare Centre, and Tender Loving Care ECD Centre.
18 July Learner upliftment drives in Vhembe and Capricorn – Mattresses, blankets & groceries to be donated to Tshilidzi Community Creche in Vhembe, and occupational therapy equipment to be donated to Baitul Lihaam Special School in Capricorn. Staff invited to assist in greening of these 2 schools through planting of vegetable garden.
18 July Elderly upliftment drive in Waterberg – Staff invited to assist in greening of Mogalakwena Old Age Home through planting of vegetable garden & to help prep meals for residents.
Chesterville Community Centre – The recent KZN devastating floods washed away many homes in the Chesterville area. We wish to support the Community Centre with paint for 4 classrooms to ease the financial burden from Ms Jabuliswe Mbonga (The founder of the centre) & her team of care givers.
