The Mawazo Institute is a non-profit research institute based in Nairobi, Kenya. Founded in 2017 by two young female scientists, we support the next generation of female thought leaders and scholars in Africa and get policymakers and the public engaged with their research. We run a PhD Scholars programme that provides research funding and other support to African women based in East Africa who are pursuing doctoral studies and postdoctoral research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), as well as the social sciences. The Research Fellows programme offers research grants to African women who are early career researchers in Kenya. The Public Engagement and Policy programme connects the research produced by our fellows and other local experts to policymakers and the general public. The Training and Resources programme connects African researchers and practitioners to training materials, resources and opportunities that promote their academic and professional development.
