ITC has long been on the wish list of many teachers and schools, the challenge for Africa has not been how to implement but rather how to make it usable by a generation of kids whose exposure to ITC is only via cellphones.
Technology has always been available; it’s the way we use it and the content that it provides, which makes it successful.

The Mandela Digital Learning Project is all about giving the kids content that is supportive and usable, giving the Teachers access to tools that can make their teaching objectives richer and more exciting for the kids and all this while ensuring parents and coaches have oversight to help build a digital revolution of learning on a simple to use android and web-based platform.

The Mandela Education Programme initiative in conjunction with Long Walk to Freedom Brand, Soul Buddies, Mandela Mobile, SMART Technologies and the Department of Education have come together for the Mandela Day Digital Learning initiative to supply the digital Library with learning content of Kahn Academy and Smart Technologies to as many of these disadvantaged schools as possible.
“Sage, with its long-term view in helping the children of South Africa with education, see the need as something that be serviced everyday not just on Mandela Day. Their support for long term solutions has allowed the Mandela Digital Learning Platform to be launched and improved since its first deployment in 2019”, says Robert Coutts CEO of the Mandela Education Programme.

As a rule, Mandela Day is a fantastic way to mobilise, but lest we forget that each day has challenges for impoverished communities and making everyday a Mandela Day, is in the ethos of many. Sage is enabling our ability to do just that. With just on 200 000 children daily in our literacy project we hope to give each child the ability to help themselves in the new digital world as well.
Let’s combine forces and really make a difference for our aspiring future generations – our children!
