Hundreds of novice app developers taking part in first of its kind learning platform to drive digital education and innovation across SA
Yesterday saw the launch of the first MTN Business App Academy, a virtual app development learnership initiative with over 900 students registered from around the country.
This 5-week online coding programme sees novice app developers being upskilled for a future career in app development, with mentoring and tutoring provided by top experts within the field.
This first ever App Academy takes learners through every aspect of app development, from design patterns, lifecycles and security to navigation, Hybrid Authentication and Geo-location services.
The course will culminate in an exciting 72-hour virtual hackathon where learners will develop their own app with the objective of solving a common social challenge facing South Africa.
App Academy sessions are run weekly along with recap sessions and all course material is available for download after each session. To further assist learners, the website and live steaming of the programme has also been zero rate. for MTN subscribers

Each solution developed though the App Academy will be entered into the Best Breakthrough Developer and/or the Best Youth App categories in the App of the Year Awards, with the top 3 solutions in line to win a share of R 100 000.00.
The MTN Business App of the Award categories also include best consumer solution, best enterprise solution, best incubated solution, most innovative solution, best health solution, best gaming solution, best agricultural solution, best educational solution, best “South African” app and Best Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) solution.
