Awarded by the PSEG Foundation, the grant will fund the expansion of community composting infrastructure, a key part of the town’s climate action plan. The initiative aims to reduce food waste, lower emissions, and build local environmental resilience.
Village President Sheena Collum hailed the win as a step toward “community-wide sustainability,” highlighting how small towns can make big strides with focused green investments.
South Orange is one of only four municipalities to receive the top-tier grant out of 375 eligible communities, reinforcing the importance of local leadership in global climate goals.
This win reflects a broader lesson for South African municipalities: strategic partnerships and grassroots efforts can unlock powerful sustainability outcomes, even with modest funding.
